Is your System Restore actually on? ... if you need to Restore because of a bug or virus that same "nasty" may have disabled your System Restore ... a little more info as to why you want to restore may help :)

You probably shut the System Restore off and didn't turn it back on again.

Go to system restore and make sure it is on.

Run some good free Antispyware software like Superantispyware or A-Squared Free 3.1 to see if it can find the infection.

Make sure Windows updates and Java updates are current.

You don't mention antivirus software. Antivir PE is free and very good!

if no restore points are showing then the virus corrupted system restore. so now what you need to do is start your pc in safe mode with networking and then run anti virus scan. and a good free online scan is. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ you can access it in safe mode w/networking. and turn off system restore before scanning, then make sure & turn it back on after and create a new restore point. good luck.

You shouldnt run system restore when you have a virus.

First, go to start right click on my computer and click on system restore tab, and uncheck turn on system restore.

Second, you need a antivirus protection and scan,
http://free.grisoft.com/ and run virus scan

Third, you need a spyware protection. download it here from avg. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

Fourth, on your firefox, you see those annoying ads that gave you a virus in the first place, well download this plug in, it will block any ads you see on the web. download it here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10
