Mac computers may be more expensive then a windows, but if you compare what you are getting when you get a mac to what you are getting when you get a windows, for the price, the mac is much better. I have always been a mac user, but have had some experiences (bad experiences) with windows.
The only disadvantage that I can think of right now for mac is that it does not run a lot of those windows applications. Like when I used to play computer games we would find a cool game but then find out it only runs on windows computers. But that is becoming less of a problem since macs are becoming more and more popular.
The advantages of macs are that they are easy to use once you learn how. Their design is great! Their computers actually look really cool. Also macs come with some awesome applications. Such as iLife. iLife includes iPhoto (personal favorite), Garage Band, iTunes, iMovie (another personal favorite), and iDVD.
There are other countless fun, and useful applications that come with you mac. Another cool thing about macs is that they get a lot less bugs and scam.

Ok, until last September, I had never used a Mac before. It was always PC's with Windows. I have a PC for a desktop and a Mac for a laptop, so I'm not one of those people who say you should have one and never the other. Here's a few Pros and Cons of a Mac in my opinion:
Pros:
-Easier (It's true, Mac's are just simpler to use. It's really a no brainer.)
-There's virtually no known viruses or anything for Mac's.
-Plug & Go (I plugged in our old printer and it knew it was connected, I didn't have to install the printer from a cd or from the printers website, the Mac already knew what it was. It does this with Thousands of other things as well.)
Cons:
-More expensive
-Just about everything comes out for Windows, not everything comes out for Mac's.
-Games (Please refer to the above Con) Very few games come out for Mac's, and sometimes when they do, it's a while after the PC version comes out.
Before you make a decision, think about this: If you get a new Mac with Leopard (The most current Mac Operating System) on it, you can run a program called Boot Camp which comes pre-installed. With it, you can partition your hard drive and install Windows on your Mac. Every time you boot up your Mac, you can then choose to either run Windows or Mac OS X. Best of both worlds.
Good luck on your decision!

First off I should say to this day i have never owned a mac, but have used them all through school and my brother owns one, and works at the apple store. Now, Going to college I HAVE to say get a macbook. Macbooks are sturdy and come with a lot of sweet things, plus Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard is amazing. Windows XP is good, but avoid vista, but 1st choice for college should def. be a Mac.

mac computers are good for creative people, they have the best graphic arts programs, music composotion, movie making. windows are more for productivity and are FAR more common on college campuses than macintosh. Either one will be a good buy, I recommend Windows to start however. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Windows is more user-friendly however if you want security go for a MAC because Windows is a favorite target of spyware/viruses since it's more widely used.

Mac - they run Windows too.
There are no disadvantages to owning a Mac unless you are a hard core gamer. They run any application and for the 2% that you want that don't have a Mac version or Mac equivalent you can run Windows.
