Vinegar, undiluted. Scrub well with passion. Elbow grease and persistence will get it off.

Did that many times. Works beautifully. Finally did the best thing .... gave my fish away. Now I golf more, read more, surf the Internet more and all the other wonderful things I couldn't do because I was getting that damn lime build up off.

Good luck. Find a kid and give him your fish.

Use an algae scraper. The blade would do a good job of removing it, but be careful not to scratch the glass!

Water lines are caused by the evaporation of your water leaving a water mark on the surface. Hard water is more prone to leaving a mineral deposit than soft water. A good tank cover will minimize evaporation.

Religiously topping off the water that evaporates and a weekly routine of scraping ( don't go lazy on this because the deposit will get harder if you don't do it REGULARLY!!! ) will just about eliminate this problem.

You can leave it there because it isn't hurting anything or you can use elbow grease and a non metal scrubber. Vinegar might help with it but don't use any commercial cleaners because the residue may stay and kill any new fish.

Use a kitchen descaler like Viacal or similar. Works a treat.
