The Hotel Burnham , The Hotel Monaco, or the Hyatt Regency - they're all south of the river.
But you're not going to find one for a hundred bucks a night - even if you stay at a motel near Midway or something, you're going to pay almost $200 a night.
I think your best bet might be the Travel Lodge in the South Loop. Don't go to the Ramada Inn Lake Shore - it's at 4900 S Lake Shore, but it's really far away from downtown and in a shitty neighborhood. I work in a hotel in downtown Chicago and people always get tricked into staying there because it's on Lake Shore drive - it's just at the wrong end of it.
There's a new Hampton Inn on Madison or Monroe, check that out.

Check Expedia.com or Tripadvisor.com. Whenever I'm going on vacation I check this sites and they have alot of helpful information.
