OMG thank you! I thought i was the only one who thought this....i hate it when people put xmas instead of Christmas! Christ is the real for Christmas and its sad that alot of people are just too lazy to spell it out....some people dont even know that xmas means your crossing out Christ...but hopefully this question...will educate more people on why its better to actually spell it out....Merry Christmas to you! And God Bless!

the X actually comes from the Greek word for Christ. It is just a shorthand way of writing Christ. (the X actually means Christ in Greek) So the X didn't originally mean Xing Christ out of Christmas. But anyways, yeah I don't like it when people put xmas. Merry Christmas!!!

Who is this X-person, anyway? Never have understood why it is so hard to write the whole word. Maybe people are just so uneducated that they can't spell the word Christmas. I hate it when I see it written Xmas. It seems lazy and a bit derogatory to me.

I usually put Christmas but i just noticed when you pointed it out that X-mas is like an actual "x" to x out the word "christ". I only put x-mas when i wanted to abbreviate Christmas but i guess im wrong. lol

I always put Christmas cause it's bad to write x-mas cause Christ was born on Christmas.

That is because they are un-informed!
Where did the abbreviation "Xmas" come about?
This abbreviation started with the Greeks. "X" is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ: Xristos.
So saying or writing "Xmas" is the same as "C-mas."

I go by the room I've got on cards and such. If I don't have much room I put X-mas and if I have enough I put christmas. Sometimes you don't have enough space, but normally I write christmas. Wasn't the original holiday the winter solstice???
