You sound like one of those type of guys who sits around HOPING for bad things to happen to the US so you can feel better about yourself.
Try pointing some of that high powered perception in the direction of your own economy up there in loonyville, Canada.
Remember, this is a global economy. And much, if not EVERYTHING that affects the US... has an affect on the rest of the worlds economic outlook as well.
So, before you start rooting for China or Russia to replace us as the next new superpower....
Look up your nearest soup kitchen, or homeless shelter in your area...
You will be seeing it LONG before you see the collapse of the US and rise of another superpower... and have time to celebrate it.

No it's actually the end of Canada as we know it. Massive unemployment will hit Canada in 2008&2009 due to the rise of the loonie vs the US $ (70% of the Canadian economy is dependent on exports to the US). The gov't then will drastically devalue the loonie in response and cause hyper inflation. Since Canada is a protectionist country the economy will collapse and the people will mass migrate to the US.

While other nations seem to turn their backs on us, our economy, while a roller coaster ride for the stocks, is still in pretty good shape. More people are working, fewer people on unemployment.

Only 2 big issue we have is the correction in the housing market, but hey, like stocks, sooner or later with it running wide open, it has to stop, and seek a natural level, which it is. The other, who wins the White House and how that will relect on increase of taxes and our own economy.

Only thing I would recommend, is these countries like China who turn their backs on us, take away favored Nation trade status, cut off funding to them and lets see how long they go before they yell "Uncle"!

Interesting question coming from the outer frontier of the glorious Imperium Britannia....

How many different ways can you ask this question?

Were all those years where the US dollar was 2-to-1 vs the Loonie so hard on your psyche....? Is the fact that Lord Stanley's cup has spent more time in the land of baseball than in the Great White North in your lifetime so appalling to you? I can't imagine what it is that creates such a need for attention in you...

If bad credit policies are stopped, tax breaks are taken away from corporations and the 6% of Americans who make more than $100,000 a year, if our government stopped playing into the lobbyists hands and started listening to it's real constituents (the people), If we decide to step up to the plate and lead the world against global warming, dangerous chemicals used in our products, and in general, start to question what consumerism has, is, and will do to our planet and our people... only then will I call America a true superpower.

Not yet, but we may be past noon.

In any event, a lot of other countries have been superpowers and lost that status and it certainly wasn't a reason to commit suicide over. You adapt and compete in the world as best you can.

Won't be all that funny when the Islamists and People's Liberation Army are 'requisitioning' your country's resources.
