They say time is an illusion, yet our life is based on time. Life is a perfect circle, like clockwork, yet a clock is based on time. They say everything is a distraction from knowing you're actually just wasting time.

I think you've got it. Many wise men and women have said that our lives are based on illusion

Time is an illusion, but it's also a measurement based on the natural order of things and I agree everything is a distraction from knowing you're actually just wasting time (replace 'time' with 'your life' as in the 'time' you have on this earth.) Most everything in our lives is man-made; the values we place on certain things and not others, the idea that there's a life-after death to make death more palatable; goals (I've always thought it incredibly inane to be asked what I plan on doing the next five years); plans; politics, religions, social norms, freedom, etc. These are all concepts devised by - humans. We made it all up - that's why these things are fluid - they change - versus all things in nature in which all things remain the same - they're static.

These man-made concepts give us something to think about, strive for or work to change as a purpose for our lives. Can you imagine what societies would be like otherwise?

People say a lot of stupid things: Time is an illusion is one of them.

But then, life isn't a perfect circle, either.

A clock isn't based on time, it measures time.

To say that everything one does wastes time is to take all meaning from that expression.
