I was wondering if I could use an external hard drive as my main one, if so, how?

If it is on a USB port and it contains the operating system, the USB port will only be active when Windows starts up, and Windows won't start unless the USB port is active. Catch 22.

Doubt it. One, for the external to be recognized, there must be an Operating system in place. BIOS will allow you to choose attached hard drives, but the external is USB connected, so the BIOS willl not see it.

Only if your BIOS supports, booting from an external drive.

'Mirror' the image off of your internal drive to your external one, using something like this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronis_True_Image
Then put the jumper in the back of the external harddrive to the Master setting, and install it by itself, in your computer. Make sure it's on the Master end of the cable,(unless it's Sata)
