I need a pet badly because I am often lonely. My heart aches and it doesn't help when I see other people walking their iguanas and dogs. I have decided that I need a furry (or scaly) pet to love and enjoy. I really like reptiles and amphibians, but I just don't know what to get. I have narrowed it down to either LIZARDS, FROGS, SNAKES, OR TURTLES. I would like to get two of one of the options I have listed, I am just not sure which one. Any advice?
P.S. Have any other animals you think I would like? List them!
P.S.S. My Great Great Nana who lives with me owns a cat chiwawa mix so it would have to get along with the little guy (or girl, not sure)

Get a hedgehog. They are really very sweet little creatures, and you can even become friends with them to the point that they will 'unroll' when you pick them up so you can rub their bellies. They have 'sharp pokers' instead of fur on their tops, but they have soft stuff (not fur, but 'hair' that is hollow) on their tummies. The ADVANTAGE to a hedgehog is that its WARM and fun. The reptiles are all less social animals ... except for iguanas ... but since your Great Great Nana has a small animal, you can't get an iguana because they are aggressive. So get a hedgehog. And by the way, you can have a cat, or you can have a chihuahua but you can NOT have a 'cross' or 'mix' of the two, since a cat is a cat and a chihuahua is a dog and they can't interbreed. I suggest you grow up a bit more and try loving your relative's pet for now and get the hedgehog when you are a bit older ... but you are quite correct to ask for a good 'pet type' here ...

Lizards and snakes ARE great pets (I have a snake myself) Frogs are adorable and fun to watch. But the problem with all three of these is the extreme amount of care involved. Not only do you have to monitor temperature and reduce all the chemical levels in your home, but at times even having their UVA and UVB rays off a little can make them sick. Desert tortoises are wonderful animals who reqiure minimal care with large rewards. As long as they stay warm and get vitamins they are happy and healthy. Plus they are VERY long lived. They are homebodies and will stay in your yard and some grow to amazing proportions. And generally have a very good disposition with other pets. Biggest plus is that you can take them for walks and even let them roam your house without fear of losing them. Good Luck!

You should really think about it, reptiles and amphibians make one of the hardest pets to care for, much harder than mammals.
I would go for lizards.
1) They are much more active than the other options you listed.
2) They eat crickets, which make very easy chum. (a lot of people get skirmish about feeding live mice to their pets)
3) Unlike frogs, they don't secrete toxic chemicals that cause you to clean their tank more frequently. (all frogs secrete toxic chemicals, some more toxic than others)
4) Unlike frogs and turtles they don't hibernate.

well i love my red ear sliders which are turtles and i love my snake but he's just a little snake only about 5 inches long and isn't getting longer which makes him great to take care of and his cage has got lots of room for him lizzards i don't like but all of the above choices you listed will need a heating lamp and a problem with turtles is they need bottled water if you have city water because of the floride and anti-rust stuff they put in it

I actually owned two red-eared slider turtles. They are both water and land turtles, so you'd have to have a big enough tank for them to be able to enjoy a heat lamp and swim. I LOVED having them. They had personality, and they moved a lot. I also could pick them up and let them move around on the floor because they are slow movers. I had to get rid of Felix and Oscar because they literally got too big for me to take care of and I had to move away to college. They don't get huge- but I needed to upgrade my tank. Thankfully, I was able to send them down to Florida where they have a turtle sanctuary for those who need a bigger place to roam. I hope they are still doing well. I vote for turtles!

Well, if you are really lonely, I think dogs are the best choice. They are sort of hard to take care of ( I have heard some stories), but not that much. If you want something that is easy to take care of, I would go with a turtle. That is just my opinion though.

I think you should get a tadpole (to turn into a frog). I have had tadpoles and frogs and theyr`e great to watch (Especially the process of metamorphosis). Theyr`e cheap, and setting up a tank is easy. I have also had lizards which are really easy to care for aswell.
