Probably, because of the now assimilated culture of Mesopotamia. It is the nation of the origin of Philip, father of Alexander the Great. Because the geographical boundaries of both Mesopotamia, and what is now knows as Bulgaria touched, and populations migrated, I believe that there was a considerable of mixing of the DNA of all three nations. However, does it really make a difference?

No. The Bulgarian tribes invaded the Balkan peninsula in the 900s AD and settled in the area allocated to them by edict of the Byzantines in order to pacify them.
The Greeks have inhabited the area since prehistoric times.
I have visited the original capital of the Bulgarian nation near Tergoviste which was established around 900 AD.

Not really. Historically bulgarians are from the far east (around Mongolia or north China). Greeks are Europeans from ancient times. The only relationship is both speak language belonging to the indo-european family, but they are from different branches. Another thing is that two nations lived close to each other on the Balcans for hundreds of years. Neighbourhood makes peoples related in a way.

Greeks and Bulgarians are entirely two different cultures in terms of language, history and also origin. As much as Italians and ex-Yugoslavians (also have common borders).
There are certain similarities that date back from the Ottoman era (mainly in food). Other than that, even their recent historical backgrounds have been entirely different. Greece was/is a capitalist country. Bulgaria belonged for many decades to the Eastern block countries (under the influence of communism).
Bulgaria has recently joined EU (Greece is part of EU since 1981). I expect this to bring Bulgaria and the rest of the eastern block countries closer to the west.
