If you are leaking amniotic fluid it will generally feel like you are peeing your pants uncontrollably....sometimes slowly, sometimes in a big gush, but that's generally the feeling.

So how do you tell if your water broke or if you are really peeing your pants uncontrollably because of the baby bouncing on your bladder? I know it sounds gross, but amniotic fluid has a sweet smell and pee...well, it smells like pee (generally salty smelling).

When in doubt, go in and get checked. Your doctor may even give you some testing strips that you could place in any "fluids" down there to test if it contains amniotic fluid or if it's something else.

Good luck to you!

With my first I had leaking fluid because my Dr insisted I was 2cm... retard! For me it was that even when I wore my Light Days pad it would still get my underwear damp.

You really should tell your Dr that you are concerned because he can do a simple test and tell you right away. It's really important because there are so many different bacterias that get up there and some are fatal to the baby...

Good Luck

You should call your doctor. If the discharge is clear and similar to water your amniotic sac could of broke. If it is a creamier discharge it could be normal vaginal discharge, however, a creamier bloody discharge could be your mucus plug. This plug is discharged before birth.

The only way to tell is to have a doctor check you out. Go to the ER. You may not have a GUSH sensation. You should be seen. RN

Oh, you'll know. I constantly thought my water broke (but really I was just leaking urine), but when it actually did...CRAZY!
