this is an organic alkyl halide compound, a binary compound, of which one part is a halogen atom(chlorine) and the other part is an element or radical that is less electronegative than the halogen, to make a chloride compound.

The carbon adjacent to the carbon with a halogen in an alkyl halide is called ALPHA carbon atom.
he alpha carbon in organic chemistry refers to the first carbon after the carbon that attaches to the functional group (the carbon is attached at the first, or alpha, position).
