Just got new internet service and tried to connect my Linksys wireless G router, but when I connect it to the modem, I get no connection to net, I also cannot connect to the 192.168.1.1 site. I checked all the cables, which are securely connected, any suggestions on how I can fix this? Right now I am connected only to the modem, no router is connected. Thanks

Get the manual for router
Now power up the router
Reset the router to default
Use an Ethernet PATCH cord to connect the WAN port on the router to the modem
Use a second Ethernet PATCH cord to connect you computer to one of the router LAN ports
Open your browser
Enter http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar
you get a popup asking for user name and password.
They are in the manual
Follow the instructions for setting up the router
Once you have configured the router and have an internet connection using the cable, follow the instructions for setting up the wireless section
Enable WPA encryption. WEP has been cracked
Give your router a unique name. It's real easy to get confused and try to connect to your neighbors "Linksys"
Once you are connected wirelessly, change the user name and password to the router. The hackers know all the defaults

Mike D - One thing to try: press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for at least 30 seconds. This should reset the router back to factory settings and you'll then be able to login to 192.168.1.1. Also make sure your IP addresses are set to configure automatically instead of static.

Once connected to the router you'll need to enter some information to connect to your modem. Usually at least a username and password. Make sure you have this. I don't want to cause you to lose all internet. Hope this helps.
