I have a special affection for those antique pieces that have some sort of history along with them. I love my grandmother's white pitcher. It
goes so nicely with the quilt that is always on my table. Each season I decorate the pitcher to fit the occasion. I have some depression glassware and a vase that belonged to my mother. I use each of these things, or I display them in some way so that I can enjoy them daily.

I also have an oak, pull top desk with little cubbies that has beautiful carved flowers all over it. I bought it about 20 years ago after watching it for many months at an antique dealership. Finally I told him what I could afford and he sold it to me. I felt it was meant to be with me. It's always been a real favorite.I keep some antique ink wells on top of it during most of the year. Several of the ink wells were found in a reservoir a few miles from where I live. The reservoir was man made in the late 1930's after destroying and flooding 4 towns that ceased to be in existence to build that reservoir. This took place before I was born but even today there are some survivors of the 4 towns and there remains a sadness over the loss of the towns that once were. I'm glad to have the ink wells.

I can watch Antiques Roadshow occassionally, about three or four times a year. Any more than that and it is like having my teeth pulled out. But as for Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, David Dickinsons Real Deal, etc, they just drive me mad. The trouble is, when they're on, the only other things on the other channels are cooking shows and home make over or restoration shows, which are equally as dreadfull. The problem isn't so much the subject matter, but the production standards, the crap music, the presenters with their shocking puns, and the fact that one programme is barely distinguishable from another. ...and then there is Trinny and freaking Susanah.

Yes. I'm afraid I have to join you in being an antique, but I enjoy antiques. I don't really collect, but I keep some old things that belonged to my parents.

I like old clothing. Not old cheezy 80's or 70's stuff; I mean 1800's era clothing. Some of it is still wearable and I will wear it, too. And what's funny is that people will say 'Nice coat' and then be completely blown away when I tell them it's a hundred years old, because I guess they think it would have disintegrated by now.
