My daughter is on Nutramigen...have you ever read the ingredients in that stuff?? It's main ingredients are coconut oil, soybean and vegetable oil and all this crazy stuff. Obviously she is on it because she needs to be...we tried switching to 1/2 breast milk 1/2 nutramigen and her symptoms came back (blood in stools, gas, screaming) so we are strictly on nutramigen again w/ 1 TBS cereal mixed in a bowl a day. Did your child meet all the developmental milestones on this stuff? I mean, I really should NOT have read the ingredients but I hate what I am feeding her. I am scared because of this stuff she will not be healthy and make progress as she gets older. Please can someone tell me if everything seems ok w/ your little one on nutramigen? Her Dr. says it will be her "staple food" till one year.

gotta love all the negative stuff on here directed towards the bottle feeders. we were on soy for a bit, but that was a no-go for her. we also have reflux issues...tried zantac but that didn't improve...she literally could vomit and it would hit the wall across the room = ( always thought it would be soooo easy...

The oil is there as a fat.
My daughter has been on Nutramigen for more than 6 months now, and while she has some intense FEEDING issues, she is developementally perfect in any other way.
Nutramigen is a premium formula, very expensive, and very easy on your little ones tummy. It is mostly digested already ( hydrolyzed ) and so it may give your LO a bit of the runs for a few weeks. It has exactly as much nutrition as any other formula, and has to meet strict guidelines, as does any other formula.
And it smells terrible.
That being said, it's been a godsend here. Its kept my daughter off of a feeding tube and out of the hospital. Good luck, and don't feel bad for not breastfeeding. I am extremely pro breastfeeding, and my daughter has a swallow issue. She was aspirating with every swallow of breastmilk. I might have killed her had we not found out. Sometimes breast ISN'T best.

My daughter was on Nutramigen for almost 4 months because of a milk protien allergy. She did wonderful one it. She gained weight at a normal rate, and has hit all her milestones early. I know that you want the healthiest stuff going into your little one, but this stuff really does work. My daughter was actually allergic to Nutramigen until she was almost 6 months old, so be lucky she doesn't have to have the next kind of formula for severe food allergies.
These ingrediants are the type that you are going to find everywhere, I promise you.

I have two boys and both of them were on special formula. Braydin my youngest was on the Nutramigen and my oldest was on Pregestimil. I think that they both did fine with the formula. The reason that I was told there is so much oil in it is to help them have bowel movements. With some formulas they are not easy on baby's tummy and it makes it even harder for them to go potty. Both of my children made their milestones just fine and my oldest is actually way ahead of where he should be. I don't really think that the formula has much to do with his milestones, I think most of that is what you do with your child. How much time you spend and the love and attention that you give. I really dont think you have anything to worry about.

Those ingredients are also some of the main ingredients in other types of formula as well. All formulas have to comply with the same dietary guidelines, and my guess is your baby is going to be perfectly happy and healthy. I like to think about it like this: formula and breast milk are such an essential part of your child's diet, but your child is going to have more health concerns from eating poorly later in life than eating formula now. Best of luck with your baby.

"coconut oil, soybean and vegetable oil"
These are natural and pure ingredients. How are they weird?
************
I understand. I was a first time mother also. But natural ingredients are better then the non-natural ones.
Remember, that whatever works for your baby is the best for your baby. There has ALWAYS been alternatives to breastfeeding and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. (http://www.google.com/search?q=history+of+bottle+feeding&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-Address&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7)
My daughter was having acid reflux until we switched to soy formula. She is much better. And I always get TD'ed for saying this, but you have to follow what you feel is best for your baby. We are not robots. How boring that would be.
