I recently set up DSL with 2 computers, and for security reasons, I prefer to turn off the computers at night before going to bed or on vacation. I know I could turn off the modem/router, but other computer users aren't into remembering this. Thanks.

If security is the main reason you are turning your computer off, and you are turning your modem/router off then you don't need to power off your computers. Your main threats on a computer have to come from outside your computer. Like CDs, Floppys, Internet, etc. If you power off your router then nobody can "see" your home network. So, no you don't need to power off your computer for security reasons. If you have a good firewall, you wouldn't even have to turn off your modem/router.
But, if you are just trying to save power then turn 'em off.

You shouldnt have to,you are more acepable to trigger a stored virus on your computer by turning it on and off constantly throughout the day i leave mine running days at a time untill it gets sluggish then i restart. But for security reasons go ahead turn off the modem or get better protection by mcafee such as firewall and internet type protection programs.

All here says yes I say not if you or the other users turn the PC:s on and off several times each day.
Startup takes power and your HD:s dont like it...
So if its ok or not depends how often.
For just some hours: no.
