Serious answer: You go into the store for an item that's on sale, and they are out of stock, the premise is, that since the advertisement lured you in, well, you then have the right to go to the cashier and ask for a ' rain check ' which basically is a slip of paper that has the item on it, and the sales price, hence,,when the item is back in stock, you can then purchase it at the sales price.

Or.

It's when you stick your head out the door/window to check for rain!! I know,..lame,,right? Oh well!! :P

A rain check is a North American term - basically when you go into a store and they don't have the advertised item for sale you can ask for a rain check and when the item comes in you can get it at the sale price using your rain check (piece of paper).

its when something's on sale & theres no more left, so you ask them for a raincheck so that you can come back when they have the product in store & you can get it for the price when it was on sale but its not anymore. haah kinda confusing get it? :D
