As a now ex-smoker, I know what they are feeling and how difficult it is to quit. It took me 25 years.

I have no bad feelings for them. I feel sympathy for them and have the hope that they will one day be able to quit.

It will be the hardest thing they ever had to do. I've been there...done that...got the t-shirt.

I will also say that starting smoking was the stupidest thing I have ever done. At first, I thought it was cool. I found out really quickly that it wasn't. By then, I couldn't stop. I was addicted. I didn't quit because of ostracism or laws or anything like that. I quit because after 25 years, I was tired of it. There was no thrill...it didn't make me feel good...it put my health at risk...I was ready to quit and I knew I needed to quit.

I can't look down on or complain about smokers. I used to be one. I know what it's like. I know how hard it is to quit. My opinion is this: it's a bad habit and a destructive one. However, it's also an addiction. I'm not asking anyone to show mercy. What I am asking for is understanding.

Ex-smokers had to really fight to quit. I know I did. I'll still have to fight the addiction...for the rest of my life.

Thank God for Chantix. It worked for me.

Rolled my first Bull Durham in 1949 when I stole the bag from Grandpa's shirt pocket. Almost coughed myself to death. Stopped on January 2, 1968 when I saw my father-in-law chocking as he tried smoking through a tube stuck in his esophagus and dying with cancer.

I had to preface my comment with the above "qualificator". Smokers are ignorant, stupid, inconsiderate and basically morons. They have poor will power, no common sense and should all be shot on the spot. Yepers I acquired that belief in 1968.

Why would anyone want to "slowly kill themselves" That's all you're doing by smoking, right?

Why would you KILL the ones you love with second hand smoke, dah! Again that's what you're doing.

Why would you want to KISS anyone that chews or smokes. That like going to the nearest sewer pipe and sucking it, right?

Been there done that. I set my cigarettes down and haven't touched them since. Thanks to my Father-in-law I have not smoked since January 2, 1968. I will be celebrating my 40th anniversary of Non-Smoking in 3 weeks! Then I plan to light up the biggest cigar ...... no just kidding.

That's my opinion and don't come back and tell me I'm being rude, mean or insensitive. That's my opinion and opinions are like a**holes. We all have one.

I think to chose to smoke is an unintellegent thing to do. Everybody knows how bad it is for them and people still continue to chose to smoke, I don't get it. It does nothing good for you, but is does so much damage (like aging much quicker) it just doesn't make sense that people still chose to start.

I would also NEVER date anyone who smoked, I don't want to be around anyone who is smoking or right after they just get done smoking, they smell.

they not only affect themselves but others, i can't even go into a casino and sit at a 25 cent machine for TWO seconds without smelling smoke. i'm in college and people smoke all the time outside, i have to walk in the grass just avoid all that CRAP.

my opinion is that, if people KNOW its dangerous but they smoke anyway then thats a good definition of a stupid person

I like the smokers, they seem far less critical of others bad habits.besides for everyone you may know that died early,i could prob name you one that didn't !.I'd take a good look at mothers who strap their babies in buggies and push them around at exhaust level !.........a doc told me that smokers seem to heal faster after op's too,now is that true ? !....I understand that they pay huge amounts in tax, that will have to be shared amongst the non-smokers when the smokers all quit !

People who smoke have an addiction to nicotene. I don't like to be around them when they are smoking.

It's sad...my grandfather died at 54 because he smoked! I never got to meet him, and my mom was only 20.
