Both schools are very good.
Both schools are extremely large, at about 49,000 students each. This may be a pro or con depending on your perspective.
Both have high return rates with about 94 % returning for their sophmore year.
Academically, the schools are almost exactly on par. Although UT has more national merit scholars.
Both have honors programs, study-abroads, and accelerated degree programs.
Both are renowned for their business programs.
UF has a very good engineeering program, UT has a very good journalism/communications program.

Both schools have a reputation of being party schools, but academics are still top notch. At UF 15% of students are in Sororities/Fraternities. At UT 11% of students are in Sororities/fraternities. UT has about 900 active student onganizations on campus. UF has about 525 active student organizations on campus.

UF:
Tuition:
in-state- $3100
out-of-state- $17,250
Room and Board- $6300
Average % of need met: 84%

UT:
Tuition
in-state-$7000
out-of-state-$16,400
Room and Board: $7700
Average % of need met: 95%

Academics at UF and UT are very very good, but UF wins by a tad. Admissions at UF in the last 3-4 years have become extremely selective. UF's reputation is also stronger than UT's. But you will not go wrong with either school, as they are both very good. If you perfer smaller schools though, you may want to look at other options. UF also has better athletics, if you are interested in such.

Hope that helps.
