I have to write one against or supporting a speech by Robert Taft for AP American History.

I went online to find out what goes into an editorial and how it should be written. I got many different hard to get explanations. Can someone give me instructions in lamens terms? Any tips?

1 - get the topic and make it as narrow as possible (not too broad). 2-3 facts about the topic begins your editorial.

2 - decide what your position will be. Write a succinct statement stating that position.

3 - List 2-3 at most reasons why your position is the best one. Cite numbers or other facts that bolster your position.

4 - Summarize your position and make a final statement of that summary.

To write an editorial you must first have a firm opinion on something. Then you need to find facts to back up your opinion.

You will get a good idea by reading an editorial in a daily newspaper.
