Someone stole my debit card. I just been informed that they bought a 200 dollar item with that. I know the seller. The question is how do I tell the seller to give me my money back and telling him that someone stole my debit card?

This is one way in which a credit card is superior to a debit card.

The merchant took the debit card in good faith and sold the merchandise. Now you expect him to give you the cost of the merchandise he no longer has, too?

Most credit cards would cover you for such a loss, but a debit card may not. Your first answerer is correct--call your bank immediately and work with them to make whatever arrangements they're able. In the end, though, you may be out all or part of the money, as surely as if the thief had stolen cash.

If the seller knows you, then why did they accept your debit card as payment from someone else? Your friend the seller has some responsibility here. Also the seller may be able to identify the thief. Furthermore, you are protected from losses greater than $50 on your debit card if you report the problem in a timely manner. The seller will have to deal with the problem with his credit card merchant bank.

Have you reported the card as stolen? If not, that's the first step. I don't think that you can get your money back from the seller. I would try your bank or credit card company.

You need to report it to your bank right away. The bank should work with you to get the money back. It is not up to the retailer. If they refunded you the money, they would be out their product, and the money for it. Talk to your bank. It may take a while, but you will get the money back. Good Luck!

You should call your bank and let them know your card was stolen and an unauthorized purchase was made. See what they can do.
