I was going to ship my friend in Germany some tea from the US, is that a no no or is it alright?

You can do that not a problem.

You have to fill out a Declaration form at the US Postal. Under NO circumstances list the total value of the goods at greater than $44, which would trigger an inspection and a bill for the duty sent to your friend.

Tea has never been on any list of prohibited products lately.

sure! Unless s/he is commercial importer, I can't imagine that whatever quantity you want to ship would cause any problems

(but just curious....why US tea? UK has much better tea, right next door....)
