My uncle, Ebenezer Balfour, tried to kill me! He is very miserly. He asked me to fetch a chest from the top tower and I found out that the stairs simply end after several steps and fall into the abyss.
He was planning to kill me so as not to have to give over his inheritance.
He didn't allow me to use any light, and it was dark, and he told me that the stairs were great, and I could find my way easily.
What should I do?

Leave the country, have a grand adventure, then come back home with a lawyer and hide in the bushes outside your uncle's place while an associate goes inside and claims that he found you dead and gets your uncle to admit to paying some guy to get rid of you, then go inside with the lawyer and claim your rightful two-thirds of the inheritance.
You are welcome for the ideas to finish your book, Mr. Stevenson. If it sells well, make sure I get my cut.

You mean "what should i do?" in terms of how to move the plot for your book forward?
I think we'd need to know more about the overall concept of the book to know what direction you're taking with your story...
