Well, I was related to the late pope. My great-grandma was his grandmothers cousin or 2nd cousin, I can't really remember. My grandparents have the genealogy and pictures and everything. Everyone thinks I'm lying, even my husband, till my grandpa showed him the proof. I swear it's true.

My great great grandmother's sister or my mother's great aunt was married to Ely S. Parker, her maiden name was Sullivan.
Ely S. Parker was a full blooded Senaca Indian and was U.S. Grant's personal secretary and signed the treaty at Appomattox ending the Civil War.
The Sullivans were bankers in Ohio ,Parker met Grant in Galena,Illinois and broke up a bar fight with Grant and some other thugs, that is how they became friends.
Parker was named Head Commissioner of the Indian Affairs during Grant's administration.
He was an architect ,and helped build the Erie Canal also.
Pictures of my great great Aunt were hidden from the family, because years ago ,it was embarrassing to have an Indian in the family tree, and she was outcast from many family gatherings. Which in retrospect is really stupid.

I'm a direct descendent of Roger Williams, who founded Rhode Island, and a fifth cousin of the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft (both on my mother's side). In fact my nephew, who's a Baha'i, tells the story of how he went on a religious retreat at a baptist center and asked if he could get a discount because the place he was staying was named after Roger Williams.
