I currently have a desktop PC running windows XP. I am going to buy a Macbook Pro in the new year when the new ones come out. I will run Bootcamp to have Vista (or XP) and Leopard on the Macbook.

If I bought the Airport Extreme Base Station would I be able to make a wired connection with my desktop and a wireless connection with my Mac so that it would have internet for the Vista and Leopard?

Also.. what is a "built in modem" that the Airport has? I have a shaw modem... would I still need that?

My shaw box it just a modem... no WiFi included.

How will the internet work in the way of having it run on the macbook with leopard and vista?

You seem a little confused.

The Shaw box is a DSL / Cable Modem and may or may not include a router with WiFi. Talk to them FIRST to clarify this. You may not need any other hardware, including the Airport Extreme. The MacBook does have a built-in WiFi card. They will explain everything to you.

The Apple Airport Extreme is a WiFi router and is compatible with the 802.11 B / G standard, among others, which means you can connect a Windows PC to it as well as the MAC using WiFi or CAT-5E cable. But, they are expensive, compared to other brands. For example, I use a US Robotics WiFi Router with built-in Print Server on both MAC and XP AND it cost half of an AirPort X.

It doesn't matter what ISP you use, Shaw's DSL / Cable Modem just connects to a WiFi router (if needed) which connects, wired and wirelessly, to all PCs.

TIP: Talk to the Apple sales staff if you need more help understanding this stuff, after you talk to Shaw.
