Because he has no drive, or at least, he does not show it. When applying for the most powerful position in the world, the American people want to see some motivation.
Thompson, especially in the last debate, answered questions with a chip on his shoulder. Unlike any of the other rep candidates, he seems to be bothered by having to debate or take questions he does not want to answer.
Is this right, should people dislike him because he is brash? Probably not, some of the best leaders have strong convictions and despise pandering; however, even if he was not seemingly unmotivated, he does not stand out among the other candidates.

I think the huge build-up to his potential candidacy hurt him. When he finally announced, not only were people starting to get tired of it already, but when they actually started to take a look at him and his stands, they realized he was better as an unattainable dream (Oh, if only Fred Thompson would run)than an actual candidate.

Honest Opinion: I think they do in general. He just comes across as a very tires old man, He made his Choice to leave his family and married a very pretty young lady they have two
small children,This is hard to do. Had he not all this responsibility's on Him I think you would had seen a different Fred. I think he is basically running to please his wife. I pray I haven't Judge them wrong. Just see a lot of common sense here. I would love to see Him as maybe vice President. He has plainly told us his family comes first and how can you hold that against a man.Loving his family. Merry Christmas

I don't think its a matter of not liking, it was expectations about him were way to high. No person could have really come up to them. He should be right up the conservatives alley but he seems to lack the charisma that an actor/politician is expected to have and people comparing him to Reagan's charisma. Not fair. Also, sometimes entering late in a contest does not help as it takes awhile to get your groove.

I do like Fred Thompson. He usually plays really good characters.
I don't like his politics, which tend to appeal to the worst instincts of humanity. You can't promote the cause of freedom by attacking everyone who fails to be just the same as you, and that's where he's headed.

I'm not sure I like Fred Thompson. Why? I can't exactly put my finger on it. For me, if I have any doubt, I don't.

I will begin with the reason he isn't doing so well. He was expected to be the "New Ronald Reagan." All conservatives were hoping he would enter the race, but he never did. When he finally entered, it wasn't much of a campaign - it was just "Vote for me." Personally, I don't support him because:
1. His personal life is not very virtuous
2. His views don't match mine as close as others
3. He lost a lot of respect from me with his CNN/YouTube debate video. The Huckabee clip was taken COMPLETELY out of context, and, while I'm the last guy to stick up for Romney, I think that clip was unfair as well.
I know I'm going to get a lot of thumbs down for sticking on this last part, but please check out www.mikehuckabee.com
