Is anyone actually reading the entire question? It looks to me like the questioner is more upset about her mother's sexist attitude than the fact that she has to cook.
It's understandable, but there's not much you can do at this point. Arguing with your mother will make things worse. You'll be on your own soon enough.

You should learn how to cook, but not solely because you are woman. You don't want to rely upon fast food or frozen dinners for your nutritional needs.
I'm afraid your mother's attitude isn't very enlightening when it comes to both genders. What is your brother going to do when he moves out of the house and has to perform domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, doing laundry? Your mother is doing a great disservice to your brother by not teaching him how to cook. Society has a more progessive attitude towards a woman's role, and I suspect your brother will have a hard time finding a girlfriend or wife because of the sexist beliefs your mother has passed onto him. No woman is going to want to be with a man that demands she must do all domestic chores and that those chores are unsuitable for a man to perform.
There's nothing wrong with a woman cooking dinner for their husband or boyfriend, but she shouldn't feel forced and indebted to comply just because she is a woman.

Yeah, I believe every body will have to. Dudes too. Anyone who's going to be a mother or father will have to understand how, or have a partner who does. Husband or spouse, does not subject. I like cooking. Everyone loves the character who made the meals! Haha say what you desire approximately it, however I cook dinner for men at all times. I have plenty of man peers. That's simply me even though. No one will have to need to. It's simply a kind of matters that boys love and in general consistently will, as sexist as a few would possibly see it. I do not believe it is a large deal in any respect, fairly. Also, it is a fundamental lifestyles ability. It's an additional a kind of matters that nobody has to do anymore, so they do not. It's type of lame. There's not anything like doin it your self, your possess means. It provides taste in your lifestyles.

You shouldn't have to do all of the cooking for the male family members if you don't want to. Cooking duty shouldn't be limited to just one gender. There is nothing "girly" about cooking. If a man has to eat, then a man has to cook (especially if he ends up living on his own). People should learn to prepare food for themselves rather than having to rely on someone else. I can't think of anyone that isn't able to prepare food for themselves other than very young children. This is the 21st century. So isn't chauvinism getting a little bit old?

You should learn how to cook, not because your mother thinks it is a woman's duty to know, but because people in general should know the basics of housekeeping. It will be better for you when you get on your own if you know how to cook(cheaper too:P). Just bear with it until you are on your own, and be glad that you are learning how to be self sufficient where as your brother will always need to have someone do the simple stuff for him.

Yes you should learn to cook, but not because you are a girl, but because you are a human being that cannot depend on everyone else to feed you for the rest of your life. It called self-sufficiency...
You should also learn to wash your clothes, and wash dishes, clean the house, sew on a button, hem your pants, change the oil in the car, and change a flat tire...not because of your gender, but because it's just good stuff to know as a responsible, independent person in the future.
Your mother may have old beliefs, and you are under no obligation to take them on, but you should learn everything you can from her, no matter how much you think it stupid, because you will be thankful one day for all she has taught you. And it will make her happy....she's your mother..make her happy for just a little bit, by making her feel like she is teaching you something or passing something on to her daughter.
Take it from someone who has been in your shoes, who hated her mother, and didn't want to learn anything from her...who now is so thankful I know how to cook, clean, sew enough to fix my kids pants when they wear out the knees. I have a lot of different skills and talents that I can only contribute to my mother. My dad taught me about the flat tire and oil changes...

Everyone should learn to cook, male or female. It's an essential skill. But your mom appears trapped in the decade where the spheres were completely separate. She's in dire need of a reality check.

No, you should learn to cook because you want to be able to eat properly when you leave home. Your gender has nothing to do with it.
I was taught how to cook at an early age, and when I looked this morning I was still a guy

Nope. If you have no interest in cooking, you shouldn't, especially at the age of 16. As long as you can live independently without having to rely on takeout or mom to fix you something to eat, then you're fine. Also, cooking is something you can learn later if you want, it doesn't take much. Have fun enjoying your teens, no need to worry about gender roles.

Unless you intend to survive the rest of your life on take-out, eating out & raw food, you should learn to cook.
Nothing to do with being a girl nor making your brother dinner.
Your brother should learn too or can he already?
