I've noticed that many more rap and hip hop songs are absolutely horrible, and don't mean anything to a regular person. The lyrics get even less and less meaningul everyday. An example would be Soulja Boy. He's the worst artist I have seen in my life, but just because his song is catchy it never stops playing on the radio.

Nope. I like all kinds of music. It's not that I don't like rap and hip hop.

Annoying! I'm older, and it used to be that an album had to have at least 3 or 4 hits on it before it could be produced! The lyrics are going downhill, because I think more people are more interested in the beat of the music and not the content.

I know what you mean I'm 36 and the music today is horrible. I listen to just about everything but the music that is put out today has no heart or soul. Wheres Lennon/McCartney or Richards/Jagger or Paige/Plant or Ulrich/Hetfield or Elton John or Billy Joel or Otis Reading. Back then a song would tell a story, it would help you identify with the artist or identify with what is going on in your life.

If you base it on "regular"people, you have to also add some Rock and Grunge.
I also think that a lot of A&R reps at these record labels aren't as talented as they listed on their resumes, signing people that don't have much talent, totaly relying on beats and hooks.
I miss the Motown days! On Motown, every artist was super talented and the lyrics were very creative.
People don't seem to understand that music is the voice of emotion, it can make you laugh, cry, love, be at peace, and make love.
Some writers these days don't know how to bring that out in their music.

Songs like Soulja Boy's aren't meaningful because he knows like everyone else that if your song is catchy and it's posted on Myspace, people are going to listen to it. And just because his song is catchy, he got a record deal. Now the Pop It Off Boyz who created "Crank dat Batman" are signed.

Yeah I noticed that too. You forgot to mention that there are PLENTY of rock and metal songs that dont mean anything too, also that sound trashy.
It seems like youre just basing that on hiphop and rap because you dont like them mabey?
