No I do not think it should be banned. I do not give a thumbs down for an answer I disagree with. I only give a thumbs down if the answer is rude or mean etc. I give thumbs up for more often than down too.

I don't really care about them anymore, as I know several of them are from one person with multiple accounts. So I know they don't really count! I think they're a good idea, in that they allow you to hide certain answers. From that convenience point of view, they're pretty good. I'd like to be able to thumb-up or down a question though, that would be pretty interesting.

We are not all mindless robots, some of us think for ourselves and the thumbs down feature is only used for disagreeing with any given answer. Most (but not all) of us are so thinned skinned that one little disagreement(Thumbs down) throws them into hysterics. This site is a question and answer site, not a one sided conversation.
Thank You and have a Merry Christmas!!!

I think it should be kept, because everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion, and that is just their way of showing that they don't necessarily agree with you. Nobody loses any points or anything doing it, it's just what people think of your answer. I am rather fond of the Thumbs-up feature though, because if your answer is chosen as best, for every thumbs up you got, you get an extra point (up to 50). Cool, huh? Hope this helps.

It's annoying, but... at one time you could give the actual question a thumbs up or thumbs down, but then they changed it to the star. You just never know. They might get rid of it one day.

I like the thumbs down. I don't take it personal when I get thumbs down, sometimes I even like it. I like to know how many other people agree / disagree with me. I find no problem with it.

i think people don't understand the meaning of the thumbs down feature. its meant for pointing out a bad answer, not just if they disagree with it or who it is that's answering. it shouldn't be banned. and i think your argument is completely pointless. if you dont like the thumbs downs just ignore them. easy solution.
