This isn't like handing over some child molester to a democratic government. Where the person will get a fair trial and have legal rights. Hell these Chinese students don't have any rights.

No that's part of yahoo's capitalistic strategy of following the laws of the country where you are operating. If Yahoo had played the hero and refused to turn that information over that would have been the end of Yahoo in China. In a capitalistic system where making profit seems to be the only value you can't expect a private company to do what the government is not prepared to do, boycott the big Chinese market out of principal.

Economic interests come first, China has most favored trade partner status despite of its poor human rights record. In this system of free market fundamentalism Yahoo acted totally logical

If they want to do business in China, they must obey their laws.
I highly doubt yahoo put together their own militia and helped the chinese government hunt them down. In reality, they turned over the data as required by law.
Do you think that any other multinational corporation does things any differently??
If you do, you are very naive.
Makes ya just wanna go out and spend some hard earned money at Walmart huh? Because this is the very kind of thing that keep their shelves stocked by communists laborers making 50 cents a day.

This is what Republicans call "free trade". We get to business in China, but our companies have to follow their anti-democracy laws, while doing business there.
So are we infecting China with capitalism, or are they infecting our busienesses with anti-democracy?

IF they don't follow the laws of the country, it violates "Free Trade" agreements. So the people pushing for free trade have already agreed to whatever the country's government demands, no matter how unreasonable we feel they are.

No, it's part of their agenda to spread capitalist ideology.

When it comes time to choose either ethics or the risk of losing money from China, Yahoo/Google will easily sacrifice their ethics.

Just keep the dollars and yuan pouring in...that's all that really matters for most people.

Yahoo, did the right thing .... believe me you don't wish to see china under democratic government with too much freedom, 'em chinese will pack up and migrate to your neighborhood and take over your community over night.

they were under the laws of china.they had to turn over the information they had.i don;t believe they enjoyed doing it at all.but that;s the way it is in any country.either turn over the information or go to jail yourself.it;s no different in this country.if the government told you to turn over information about a terrorist would you refuse to do so.well if you;d say yes, then by all means then go to jail. i don;t think yahoo did anything wrong.they obeyed the laws of the land where they were operating their business from.what can;t you understand about all this.
