Do you think adding to old standard frame movies to make them widescreen is a good idea (like cartoons)?

...depends upon the movie; colorization of black & white movies, seems to work for some, but not for others. For instance, the colorization of the 1937 comedy/fantasy, "Topper", actually worked, because the film was gleefully whimsical, to begin with; it was almost like discovering the movie, for the first time. However, the colorization of the second sequel to "Topper", the whimsically comical 1941 murder mystery, "Topper Returns", did not work, because of the murder mystery film noir aspects to the story...

I've seen "Casablanca", the original "Frankenstein" and the original "Night of the Living Dead", in their colorized format; due to the associated film noir, and/or grim horror elements of the stories, as well as the filmmaking styles, these titles also lose their appeal and flair, in their colorized formats...

I personally prefer the black and white version of the 1947 fantasy/comedy/drama, "Miracle on 34th Street", but the colorized version is quite well done, and much like the original "Topper", maintains it's whimsical appeal, despite the colorization...

...again, it depends upon the film...

I'm not a huge fan of the coloring, only because it's a bit obvoius in my opinion; however it's not that bad.

I haven't ever heard of them adding to frames to make it widescreen. If they are adding their own idea of what should be there though, I am definately not a fan of that.

I think black and white, and standard format movies should be left as is.
Black and white can be really artistic and give a nostalgic feeling.
We have enough of the new stuff already, we don't need to try and make the old stuff new too.

I think they are best in their original state. But a good classic movie is a good classic movie!

I enjoy the black and white and wish they were left alone.

For those who are into this stuff, it is great, but for me it is of no consequence.
