thinking of going away for a few days/a week either abroad to somewhere like france, or just by the coast to isle of wight/ bournemouth/ weymouth.
we need to find some cheap accomodation (e.g. a caravan) in an easy/ walkable to places location in one of these areas.
any websites or something or ideas of where we can go to find more info?

I go with the advise for a hostel.
You can also stay in one of the independent hostels. Easiest to find them is searching internet on Hostel and the name of the town/area you want to go, or look in the Lonely Planet guide for the area.
Before booking, check they accept a group of 16 year olds traveling without adults, and if so, on which conditions.

People taking bookings for caravans and holiday homes will not (often) accept a group of people your age, as they have learned young people can make a lot of damage and it is hard to get money out of them for repairs.

Some campsites will accept you, but you will need to bring your own tent.

Most places will not take a group of 16 years old as a booking unless there is an a adult over the age of 21.
