Etiquette used to say that a man should be seated to be able to face the door. I suspect anyone who is to the point of paranoia must be expecting something somebody or something or has an anxiety disorder or ocd.

I have an acquaintance who has a problem about washing hands, hanging up on you when you're in the middle of a sentence, leaving you at the restaurant after a nice meal to where you have to catch a taxi, setting a date then going out to their car for something and driving off and you have no idea where they went, and boy is that all irritating. Yep, they're out there!

I don't necessarily need to see the entrance itself, but once I get to a table I always choose a seat so that I'm facing that direction and I make sure I know where the other exits are. If I can have my back in a corner or to a wall, that's even better.

I don't know if it's compulsive, but I really have a need to sit with my back to the corner or wall, so I can see the room and everyone who comes in.....you'd think I was John Gotti and worried about getting whacked! lol

A sure sign of agoraphobia or claustrophobia. No, I don't know anyone like that.
