I have, on occasion, put presents in our stockings, but never peasants.

I Guess you mean.. Why do we put presents in stockings?
In that case, ask Santa for a dictionary in your stocking.
Although, can you imagine The Queen having a peasant in her stocking, that would be a laugh!!!!!

We don't put peasants in them, we put presents. It is just a tradition.

We don't ! We put little nick-nack presents in the stockings which hanged by our fires.

cuz a long time ago kids used to put out shoes or socks for "santa" to put presents in if they didn't have a tree
