I don't get why so many people complain about them. Myspace is worse... I mean, it takes forever just to open someone's myspace page because it's filled with a very big background, flickering pictures, slideshows, etc.
On Facebook, it looks MUCH more organized. I gotta say though. Some people really do just insanely crowd their Facebook profile with applications. It just makes people not even want to look at your profile, instead of taking the time to look at everything they had (as what the intentions probably are).
I only have a few applications... the ones that really count. I like to have a song up, a funny picture, and my work information. That's about it... I keep it nice and clean... and not scary.

I hate them. I just pretend they're not there. Facebook did this thing that consolidates them on the page... Now it's easy for me to ignore them. So I think i have over 200 app requests. Oh well.
Edit:
ALSO I forgot.. I use this plugin on firefox called greasemonkey that lets you change the content of pages with user scripts, and i found a script that just makes them disappear on other users pages. it's perfect.
The only apps i like are top friends (sometimes), X-me (so i can slap people instead of just poke.. :P ) graffiti wall is fun. other than that i hate pretty much all of them.

Many of them are thinly veiled ways to get people to view advertisements. Some of them are useful and fun.
