cliff i have no probs with people whom deserve asylum but unfortunately there are far to many on the British gravy train. we should take a leaf out of Australia's book . they have strict immigration rules and it works.

1. Immigration is not the same as asylum seekers, which I think is what you're talking about.
2. There is no 'mass immigration'! This is just a myth fed to people by the right-wing media. People have always emigrated, especially the Brits. The only people who can justifiably complain about 'mass immigration' are the N American Indians or the Australian Aborigines (if we hadn't murdered them all of course)!
3. Of course, you're right about asylum seekers from Afghanistan & Iraq. We are largely responsible so it's only right that we help. We shouldn't destroy a country and then say to the largely innocent civilian population 'your problem, nothing to do with us'.
4. From the latest asylum statistics it seems that most successful asylum applications are still from Africa.

People migrate mostly for economic reasons, people come from poor countries to richer countries to make a living and support their families, anyone would do the same, we should admire folk that travel thousands of miles just to feed their mothers and their children.
It happens the whole world over.
Wherever there is strife and hardship, there will be, mostly, young men and women willing to move on to greener pastures.
One could argue that the strife and hardship is purposefully created by global politics and aggression though !
The emigration of British people (there are many thousands every year) and those from richer countries are mostly for economic reasons too. I can think of no-one that has emigrated because of immigrants. They emigrate mostly because they have earned good pensions and/or sold big houses in Britain or wherever and gone to live in other countries that offer a better return on their investment, where life is cheaper and preferably warmer.
Thereby spreading the wealth of the world about a bit to where it is probably needed a bit more.
Everytime we move we re-engineer the global state.
We are all just people and this is our world.

There seems to be two ways of looking at illegal immigration; The half that thinks, "If I were in that persons shoes, would I migrate illegally?" And the part that can't see through other peoples shoes.
BTW- the real reason they come to the UK is because they speak english as a second language, not spanish. The reason Australia doesn't have an immigration problem is because they are on an island, far far away. Not because of their laws.

Cliff you really ought to watch less pro labour BBC "documentary" programs and read a history book. The hanging gardens were destroyed by earthquake a LONG time ago. Your looking at immigration from the wrong point of view. This argument is getting very old, very quickly.

The UK is a free for all guaranteed.
In the unlikely event of being classed illegal immigrant, you can either appeal or courtesy of the government, take £3000 and a ticket home for some high living.
Either way you cant lose.
No wonder the world is laughing.

I'm sick of suffering the consequences of decisions made by a Government I didn't vote for and people justifying immigration and/or terrorist acts because of the war in Iraq and 'invasion' of Afghanistan. As far as I'm concerned muslims are not welcome here - they don't integrate, wish to impose Islam on us 'infidels', and there's too many here already. We cannot be expected to cure the ills of the world or support all comers. What about the needs of the indigenous population which should come before the needs of others.

The cause is simple. The UK. is a soft touch. Shut the doors now.
Somebody mentioned Brits going abroad, that is only because immigrants are flooding in.

The amount of immigrants that are asylum seekers from war zones is a tiny percentage of those that are economic migrants.

Lets assume you were a migrant from one of these countries.
Using what you have stated, would you migrate to the cold miserable country which is destroying your homeland or would you settle in one of the warm and scenic countries like Spain. germany, france or italy that you would have to pass through to get here.
Sorry, can you just explain to me again why they are coming here?
