Breast milk and formula should quench the baby's thirst. If you are thinking he is truly thirsty, you should call the doctor for an appt. Thirst can be a sign of something more serious, even in infants.

If you are bottle feeding and you feel he is just thirsty then just fix a half oz to a 1 oz bottle. enough to quench the need. If you are breast feeding then just latch him on for a few. Milk is all he should need at 5 weeks.
Good Luck!

The simple answer is no you should not give your baby anything else for his thirst. Babies may seem hungry after they have eaten because they start to get fussy and parents think that they must be hungry. Babies can just be fussy to be fussy. Sometimes parents who feed their baby at every whimper start more of a problem because the child gets use to eating more than they need to. I would feed your baby every 2-3 hours and no more than that.

The American Academy of Pediatrics actually states that "until your baby starts eating solid foods, he'll get all the water he needs from breast milk or formula."
The baby is getting his thirst quenched when he breastfeeds/formula feeds. Be careful with giving him a lot of extra water because it could lead to a loss of nutrients when he does not eat as much as normal and or hyponatremia which could lead to death. I suggest you talk to your Doc about this!

MILK. I wouldn't give a baby that young water or juice. Trust me, milk will more than satisfy his thirst if he gets enough. My ped told us not to give our baby water until about three months and even then he could only have about two ounces a day.

Should only require milk until weaning starts giving water may cause problems if excessive ie Hyponatraemia or Hypokalaemia
You don't say whether using breast or formula, if the latter ensure mix is made accurately

You can give cooled boiled water from a bottle
You can give boiled water. In the UK where i am from that is what my health visitor said to do. As long as it is sterile.
