It is an outrage that waiters, waitresses, and other service-sector employees have to pay taxes on the tips they earn. The IRS makes an estimate of how much service-sector workers will make in tips, and taxes them on it even if the taxpayer did not actually earn as much as the IRS' estimate!

What? This is outrageous! No taxes on tips!? What is he thinking?!

Ok, one more time. If you abolish the IRS, you would need to cut government spending to 1990 levels. OK, if that's STILL not enough money for the beurocrats, then install a 2% federal sales tax. Simple......until you get the "poor" people pay more argument. That's idiotic. You would be taxed on consumption. (you know, that whole within your means concept)

I hate to say this at the time of Christmas, but this guy is a loon. LOON. Now he is saying Abraham Lincoln should not have started the Civil War. Slavery could have been done away with, without going to war.

Flash for the crayon eaters. Abe did not start the Civil War. The south did. Remember Fort Sumter And the Civil War from Abe's standpoint was fought to restore the Union. Not releasing the slaves. "A house divided against itself, etc"

As for tips....tips are regarded as earned income. All world wide earned income is subject to income tax. They are actually calculated based on financial models of all sorts of establishments. In most cases servers want to report their tips. Especially if they have children. It greatly improves their refunded tax position with EIC.

Actually, the 16th doesn't really contradict the 4th, because they talk about different things. The 4th relates to persons and things whereas the 16th talks about income.
Speaking of which, most people don't have to pay an income tax, anyway, because "income" has a very specific (and very different) meaning than that which it's usually thought to have. By which I mean, we use "income" to refer to any wealth earned/acquired, but "income" as defined in the Income Tax Code means any wealth acquired through performance of a service for the federal gov't, or through an investment in a gov't owned company. One also has to pay an income tax if they live on federal gov't-owned property, if I remember correctly.
Either way, a waitress (or waiter), unless they are investing in a gov't corporation, live on gov't-owned property, or are performing a service for the gov't, do NOT have to pay an income tax, because their earnings do NOT constitute "income" as defined in the law.

Even though I have never waited tables before and don't know completely how the taxation of tips is done, I would have to say that I think it is preposterous that tips are taxed at all. I always thought the tip was like a reward for a job well done.

I answered many questions on Ron Paul yesterday and many people said that I didn't understand Ron Paul. To be fair I went back and watched the "Meet The Press" interview from yesterday. I still think he's clueless and scary. Although it would be nice to get back to a Constitutional state of government it's just not possible, it's not 1787. This country and the world is way different than it was back then.

The IRS - Just simply get rid of the IRS? And we're going to keep this country safe from terrorists by making mean faces at them? No, we need military intervention to stay one step ahead of them.

Pull troops out of N. Korea, Germany and Japan? No way! We need troops stationed all over the world to be able to get areas of conflict to protect not only ourselves but our allies. He probably finds it hard to swallow that we helped out England and France in WWII. If we didn't we'd be speaking in German, that is those of us the Nazis didn't kill first for not being of the Aryan race.

I still believe that he also says things that will get him votes. He surrendered his Republican involvement in the party in 1987 to run as a Libertarian. When he didn't win he went back to being a Republican. Flip-Flop, flip-flop, make up your mind what do you want to be? I know what he wants to be - a winner at any cost.

Prescription drugs more dangerous than the hard drugs sold on the streets????? What??????

Some of the time he couldn't even answer Russert's questions about himself because he had no clue as to the answer and just laughed. Maybe he's right, maybe prescription drugs are more dangerous and he should be laying off the prescriptions that he appears to be writing for himself!

In an AOL online poll, Paul is winning every state but 2. This is the only poll where Paul appears to be the Republican winner. In all other polls he's got single digit support. He appears to have a lot of internet support. It's possible that the people taking this poll aren't even of voting age, I have go with the majority of other polls and believe those.

I don't hate the man but I certainly believe that if he becomes our president, and does the things he's outlining, then this country will become a third world nation where we'll be speaking Arabic thanks to our terrorist invaders and zero military force.

Ron Paul is what Democracy is all about.

He is trying to get the government out of our pocket. There are other ways to do things people just aren't willing to accept that. They would rather be puppets for the government.

I don't think you understand what he is saying. Wait staff make minimum wage. With tips, most don't make enough to live on. So he is saying that there shouldn't be taxes on minimum wage jobs. This is fair enough in my book !

He's trying his best to take the "Power" of money out of the Govt,/Military Complex hands, and allow the common working people to enjoy their hard earned, fruits of their labor.

You see money earned is "Private Property",,,,and the private property laws are covered in Amendment V of the U. S. Constitution......Please, please bring back Constitutional Law with Ron Paul.
Thank you.
