Run blocking is much different than pass protection. Maroney would easily have over 1000 yards, had the line been accustom "driving".

Belichick is doing exactly what he wants, in transitioning from the high scoring passing offense to the late year need to run, especially outside in New England.

This is the reason the normally stoic coach has been beaming, while the talking heads have been bewildered by the low scoring games.

They're not executing perfectly, but the fundamentals are strong; and Bill knows it!

Maroney was still nursing injuries and was not 100% for the first half of the season. By the time he was fully healthy (if there is such a thing) the Patriots had little need for a running game. Maroney will be a big factor in the playoffs as teams will play a lot of Cover 2, and try to double Moss and/or Stallworth/Welker. Once Maroney breaks off a few big runs, teams will have to bring a safety up in the box which will open up the vertical passing game. I would hate to be a defensive coordinator for any of the Patriots playoff opponents. They will have their work cut out for them. Pick your poison because it will be impossible to stop the pass and the run. The only chance a team has against the Patriots is if they make mistakes, turnovers and beat themselves. Unfortunately the Patriots don't make many mistakes.

The Patriots don't develop a run game, and rely on Brady all the time which is good as long as Brady doesn't get injured. I feel sorry for Maroney's talent, but I also don't think he wouldn't consider changing teams seeing how his team is having so much success.

Because he didn't get the ball enough. At the beginning he shared carries with Sammy Morris.

Even yesterday, Brady passed to Moss on 1st & goal at the 1 yard line instead of giving it to Maroney. And in his own 1 yd he tried to pass instead of run the ball.

Pats do pass plays too often, and Maroney doesn't get that many opportunities to get good yards.

bstone88 is dead on Maroney was not 100% healthy even now he is not. He care off i think it was knee surgery you think anyone coming off that would be willing to risk a re-injury? I doubt that, unless you rather have your Pro career come to an end for pushing yourself when its not needed.

Why couldn't Bellichek give him the chance to do it all year instead of having Brady throw all those 1 yard TD passes?

Well... he is going against lesser defenses and also... this has just been more of a passing year. I'll bet you we'll see something out of him in the playoffs. That's where records don't matter and the Pats will be just playing to win. GO PATS!

He is on a team that throws the ball 90 % of the time.
