When the Church was trying to convert Pagans to Christianity, they chose a familiar date, the Winter Solstice. Jesus was actually born in March.

This time of the year has been celebrated for thousands of years. It used to be a pagan holiday. It was later hijacked by Christians as the 'official' birthday of Jesus. Despite no real evidence that he was born on this day, and significant evidence that it was definitely not the day he was born.

No more so than for the India Festival of Lights or Ramaden or for that matter New Years Day.

If you like you can go to work or school on that day. No one is stopping you.
