Jamie Lynn Spears?

Question

Ok, I know that Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant at sixteen, and I can somewhat understand why people are so shocked, especially since Britney is her sister.
What I don't understand is why people are making SUCH A BIG deal out of it. There are loads of other people who have had babies at sixteen. I was in Florida, and there were talk shows and radio shows about her predicament. Everyone is being very hard on her, just because of her pregnancy.
I think that that is horrible. I can understand when people say that she is supposed to be a role model for younger children, but she's not their only role model. Don't they have parents? Aunts? Uncles even? Why is Jamie Lynn being beaten down so hard on?
I know children much younger than her who have had sex already, and no one is critisizing them!! My friend has had sex, and she is thirteen/ fourteen, just like me!!
I'm just asking for your opinion....do you agree with the way people have been treating her or not?

I totally agree with you. This has got to be so hard for her and she doesn't need people saying she's about to lose her mind like Britney. She and Brit are two different people and Jamie's a lot more sensible than that.

There is absolutely no sense in boycotting her show just because she got pregnant. Let's boycott Angelina Jolie movies, she got with a married man.

It's because teen pregnancy is such a huge problem. Teens having babies, most don't finish school which means their man job skills are going to be "Do you want fries with that?"

Granted not all, but the majority are in for difficult lives and poverty.

Having sex at an early age is not good. Your statement: "I know children much younger than her who have had sex already, and no one is critisizing them!! " Is a terrible thing... 13 14 is way way to young to start having sex. A person of this age have along way to go in their growing years. They can physically have sex, but that doesn't mean they should.

I advocate waiting to have sex until marriage. This is a special part of your relationship with a spouse. Not just a boyfriend who may be gone six months. And there is always the risk of having an out of wedlock child.

It's not just Jamie Lynn who has set a bad example there are plenty of other celebs out there that are sitting bad examples. By their sexual behavior and having children before they are married.

I don't agree with they way people are handling it, but then again I do. The public loves gossip and anything related to stars (especially those failing) We sometimes can't help but want to know. So this is just another train wreck that will get the publics attention as well as make money for the magazines. I think it is unfortunate that she is pregnant and I hope that she is a better parent than what she has to look up too, that being her sister. You are right, there are many 'regular' people as well as stars that are having sex or having babies at a young age, but the public is focusing on her because of her sisters recent history as being a mom. I wish her the best and I hope it soon passes and she doesn't loose her cool. As for those kids looking up to the Spears family, or any other celebrity as a role model, kids are going to do so as long as the stars are around and their lives are portrayed as perfect or even wealthy. It is sad that most kids see this as good behavior other than what they see in their own parents or family members.

Because she is a role model, there are higher expectations. Yes, there are parents, family members, etc, who should influence children's decisions, however, JLS is on tv - she was living the life a lot of young people dream about: She has her own tv show, she is pretty, etc, etc - they want to be like her.

So, for her to be pregnant, the fear is that a lot of young people will think, "Oh, JLS did it - so can I!" Another thing is that by modified traditional standards, people think that women should get an education, go to college, meet the man of their dreams, get married, then have children - whether or not that is right is a whole other story.

And if older people knew your friends were having sex, they would be criticizing them - because that is too young.

I think its more the fact that shes in the spotlight.

My little sister (shes 9) watches Jamie Lynns show 'Zoey 101' and loves her to death, she actually said she wants to be like her. Now shes hearing these stories and doesn't know whether its a good or bad thing.

I know where you're coming from, i think people should mind their own business really, but when you're a celebrity and a role model for kids you're basically signing up for the responsibility of keeping yourself good for the public.

I just hope she doesn't end up throwing away a potentially good career at such a young age

Well I really do hate it when people are hard on her, my cousin got pregnant at 14 and I love her. But I think it's because they think it's shocking how she has a show on NICKALODEON (if that's how you spell it) and yeah. It's just really disappointing that she's my little sister's role model and now, you know. But she's human and we all make mistakes. And seriously, she's related to Britney Spears for goodness sakes! Hint hint. Why is this news such a surprise to people?

Jamie is like britney and she probably was like well britney has a baby I feel sorry for her because she doesnt look ready for a baby and my sister is 18 and she finnaly got settled with her baby

I do the simple point is when your in the public eye you have certain things your supposed to do and not do being 16 and pregnant by a 19 year old that you kick outta your life before the baby is born is A HUGE THING your NOT SUPPOSED TO DO

Because she is a celebrity, and celebrities are regarded by the general public as bastions of virtue. In other words, many people expect them to set some sort of example for the multitudes, and if they can't deliver, then they're chopped liver. Jamie Lynn is like many girls in America today, I'm sure, but the fact that she's famous simply drives home the fact that when it comes to fame, image is everything.
