Defending spin great Shane Warne who has been criticized for his panning of Buchanan,Chappell said the former coach's contribution in Australia's dream run was nil.
''It's a simple decision. The captain is 95% important, the coach is 5% important.Guess who i am going to worry about first?''
''Shane Warne would have been a magnificent attacking captain for Australia.
''A lot of people refer to John Buchanan's record as coach. How many wickets & how many catches & how many runs did he make?
''He didn't make any.His contribution to those victories in my opinion is absolutely nil.Is someone going to tell me if my daughter had coached Australia, would the results have been any different?''I am here to tell you the results wouldn't have been any different at all.Infact, they might have been better without him there.'' (lol)
Chappell also attacked Buchanan for floating the idea of allowing Australians to play for rival nations as a way of strenthening international cricket.

‘’The thing is,if you think about that suggesion,it’s exactly what Warney said,it’s from pixie-land.
‘’What you are saying is that we need to find(countries) to compete against Australia,so what he is suggesting is you send off players who can’t make the Australian side to play for other teams.
‘’How is that going to help those other teams beat Australia? It doesn’t make any sense,’’
Chappell said.

Now that’s what he said.
What do you think about these comments?
How much do you agree or disagree with Mr.Chappell here.

Thanks Rehman bhai. Nice answer.

I think our lefty ballebaj should handle the new ball. I am a very damn positive person & i like to take risks.
I want either Saurav bhai or Yuvi to play at #3.
Then Sachin at 4 & then again a lefty at 5.

I am sure our batsmen will not let us down. The big fear factor is our bowling.
And we all know that our bowling is damn weak.
Only hope is brother Jumbo

Ian is the most vocal and the most critical in his outbursts. Negating the contribution of a coach who has transformed the Aussies into a unit of immense strength, is uncalled for. Ian has a lot of suggestions for all the players in the world, but what is his contribution to the Aussie cricket? I doubt he is always lamenting and repenting. Being an outspoken person is good but doing character assisination is totally unfair. Ian seems to be a stubborn type of personality and always finding faults with.
As far as Warne is concerned he may have difference of opinion with the coach or might be vain of his success. He has been been one of the greatest spinners in the world till date but as a person he has been always in the news because of wrong reasons. So I do not mind the Warne outbursts but Ian's remarks are totally .....

I have ti disagree with Warnie's and Chappells feelings about John Buchanan. Whilst Bucks idea about gettingAussies to play for other countries is a bit strange, he did make a great contribution as coach that often went unnoticed as Buck was not a coach that liked the limelight too much a la Duncan Fletcher.

Buck introduced a different approach to coaching players and training techniques, whic was paramount to the success of the Australian team - how many other coaches started their careers with 16 straight wins? And it was not just the players - the same group had been together for about 18-24 months prior and had not had that level of success.

Warnie has made these comments because he has disliked Buchanan ever since Buck had the balls in India in 2001 to tell Warney that he was overweight and not fit enough to be playing for Australia and dropped him for the last test.

As for Chappell, well he is always one to criticise the way things are done these days. He still thinks its 1975 a lot of the time and doesnt like things if they arent done the way they were back then.

I disagree just because Shane Warne had personal issues
with the coach. He never had eye to eye contact with the coach.
Chappell thinks he is right and it is all BS to me......
Coach sets the mind set on all players and the players need to
contribute and listen to the coach. If the player thinks
otherwise there is always problems in any team.

Give the credit where it is and irrespective of what the coach
has done, the part of the credit always goes to him. He is
mainly responsible to Cricket Australia along with Steve W
to bring Aussie cricketer as ruthless sportsmanship.

i dont agree with Chappell.. Buchannan is also a part of team success... If Buchannan was not a good coach and he is a dumbo then it would have surely affected the performance of Australian team.. they would not have been the greatest and he would have been kicked out without any notice.. australian board is not a political board they are the most professional..

I think Ian Chappell is saying all these things to cover his brother Greg Chappells failure.. It is better if he gives only ball to ball commentary and shut his mouth on other things..

Salam Janab Monti,
This is my opinion: Buchanan and Warn had difference of opinion. Reason: Warn likes to attack.Buchanan implemented the following strategy against ballebaaj: Bowl outside off stump and pack off side with fielders. This strategy wasnt digested by esteemed Australian fatty Warn. He likes attacking. India has noted weakness for OFF side, plus batsman looses concentration with repeated balls going to OFF side. He mistimes and becomes out.

I think they will implement this against India again. So Opening partnership between left and right is very important. I think dravid- ganguly or trndukar-ganguly combimation is good.

Ek aur baat. I think popular Inidan hitting type batsman Mr Yuvraj being lefty should also play in middle order.

meri is baat pe aap amal karo, aur apna kissa bhi batayo.

Sincerely
your Rehman bhai from Multan

Summary: Disagree, I think he was effective

Frankly speaking, Oz need smething to discuss in media. Its unfair to take away the credit from a coach , if the team des well, man management is important and coach has a part to play

It is so easy for him to say in hindsight though i don't know his intentions.I feel Buchanan deserves a greater share than what he has attributed.
However Australians can play in(rather than for)other countries as they do in English county and hope to do in IPL.
