Why do the neo-cons act like the Gestapo with people who disagree with the Iraq war?

Most of the answerers to this question are out of touch with reality.

Bush has been following the 10 steps to Fascism as done by previous dictators, as established by history.

1) Invoke a terrifying enemy. (Al Qaeda...etc...)
2) Create a gulag (Guantanamo Bay)
3) Develop a thug caste (Blackwater)
4. Set up Internal Surveillance (wiretapping without court order)
5. Harrass citizens groups( Arrest protestors and deny entrance to those with opposing views to neo-con speeches)
6. Arbitrary dedention ( Bush can now lock up individuals without counsel, or charges being filed, or an appearence before a judge)
7. Target Key Individuals (college profs who protest the war, 8 U.S. attorneys fired for not knuckling under to Bush demands)
8. Control the press( continue to spread lies about a liberal press...place "plants" in whitehouse press corps who toss soft ball, prepared questions at Bush)
9. Dissent equals treason (aren't those opposed to the war labeled as not supporting the troops..etc?)
10. Suspend rule of law (ignore constitutional protections of separations of powers, torture in violation of War Crimes act and Geneva conventions...label anyone an "enemy combatant" and lock them away.)

Those of you who do not believe we are heading down this path are dangerously unaware of what is happening to our civil liberties and our constitutional freedoms.

Ever see the movie "The Great Escape"?

To make a long movie short, Allied POW's stage a mass escape from a Nazi prison camp. Most are recaptured, but a few make it back to Allied territory. In response to the escape, the Gestapo shoots 50 of the prisoners. (50 killed, 0 wounded. . . imagine that.)

This is what the Gestapo did. As far as I know, no one has been shot for their views on the Iraq War. If you want to argue about the merits of the war (and there are certainly merits that can be argued), stick to facts. When you engage in comments like this, you only make yourself and your cause look like a moron.

this is a little digressive . . . but daniel l, that's not what the gestapo did. the gestapo were the ones who killed Hitler's rival political figures.

I have no problem with your opposition to the Iraq War. My problem is when people, not you necessarily, tell lies about the war. For example, if they say it is being fought for oil.

I also have a problem with those who demonize President Bush and the neo-cons, just because they see things differently.

And really, the Gestapo analogy is a bit overdone, isn't it?

just a guess....but I'd say your high school failed to teach you the meaning of Gestapo and Neo-Conservative....I mean, they're fun words to toss out for effect, but one does have to have some awareness of context to avoid sounding foolish.

There is NO WMD to be found in Iraq up to this date, that was the justification for war ?
