Hi! I was wondering... for anyone that bought a paper yesterday, was there a coupon section included in the paper (like there usually is)? The reason I ask is, my husband brought home a [Santa Rosa] Press Democrat, and then I went out and bought another one AND a San Francisco Chronicle... but there were no coupons anywhere in either of them. Does anyone know if the company that puts out those coupons is going under or something? (Because this isn't the first time it's happened, and I'm mad that I wasted $4 on newspapers!)

The inserts in the Sunday papers provide a large portion of the revenue for every daily newspaper in the United States. That isn't going to change anytime soon. There were mistakes in the circulation department at those companies and you might get your coupons if you call and let them know. Here's a place to start:

There are a couple of possible answers here. Sunday was not a particularly big day in the newspaper business for coupons. Much of the holiday shopping has been done, so I'll bet some merchants are saving their coupon "bullets" for Dec. 25 and after Christmas sales. Our paper had few ads on Sunday.

Plus, the papers in question that you own may not have ads in certain distribution points, like boxes, for space reasons. Sunday papers are big as it is, and that may be a way for distributors to get more papers in the boxes. Don't know if that applies to you.

Oh, it's never a waste of money to buy a newspaper. You always learn so much.

It could have been a mistake. Or they may be like some other newspapers that give the coupons only to subscribers, not in the copies in the newstands.

Either way, calling the circulation department of the newspaper will tell you the answer.
