To get ducks, in the first chapter you have to buy a pond. Then, if you have a pond, in the second chapter summer wake up later than your wife and she wife and she will tell you there are ducks in the pond. You can keep them or choose not to keep them.

you have to buy a pond in the first chapter/year and thn wake up after your wife and she will tell you that there are two ducks in the pond. you then get the choice of keepin them or not.

it will happen by itself that your wife will say there are ducks in the pond
after you decide to get the ducks, you need to realize the trick of hatching more ducks - though it's not more useful than chickens.
when there is an egg you can incubate, it could hatch, RANDOMLY, into either a duck or a chicken, provided there are adults of both sexes.
ducks do not sit on eggs, so just cause a chicken is sitting on an egg, it can still hatch into a duck.
