I'm 5 months pregnant, and lately I've been having bad abdominal cramps. Is this normal, or should I go to the doctor? I'm really worried. Could their be something wrong with my baby?

Call your doctor.

There are bad things it could be, and there are perfectly normal explanations for it. Either could be true.

If it's something bad, you need medical attention.

If it's something normal, you need the reassurance.

There's no risk to calling, and potentially life-threatening (to both you and the baby) risk if it's something bad.

Most OB/GYN practices know how to tell over the telephone if it's a normal condition. They can't have every pregnant woman coming in to the hospital/office whenever she feels a new sensation. At the same time, they can't risk serious danger. Thus, they have every motivation (and the experience) to weigh the risks. After all, that's what you pay them for.

You are probably one phone call from total reassurance.

I hope all goes well with you and your baby.

Your pain can be from one of Two things. The first thing is dehydration. You might want to try drinking some water and see if the cramping stops. The second is your muscle are stretching out and making room for the baby. Either way I think it is best that you go and see your doctor. If it is that you are dehydrated they will give you fluids there. Good luck!!

it would be hard to answer this question because it all depends on what " bad abdominal cramps" really mean and how bad it really is. Sometimes light cramps or soreness so to speak is normal ..but bad? to the point where u cant walk or hold a conversation with a stright face deffy would mean to go to the e.r or call ur dr.

I'm not a doctor, but according to happyhealthypregnancy.com your cramps might be completely normal. I would consult a physician about your cramps and ask him or her what he feels the best solution would be. Excises like yoga, jogging, or swimming can help with the cramps. Take precautions though to make sure that you and your baby stay as healthy as possible. You can check out the website in my link for more information about your condition.

i would call the doctor and have them look at you thats the best thing you can do the worst the doctor can say is your having Braxton Hicks is are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although you won't be able to feel them that early. You probably won't start to notice them until sometime after mid pregnancy, if you notice them at all (some women don't)

Well, I'm no expert. All I have to say is if it worries you, go see a doctor. It may be nothing, but it may be something. It's better to be safe rather than sorry. I'd go see a doctor. He/She is there for a reason. Ask.

Not necessarily. But please go to the doctor today. Even if your doctor is closed, report to a local emergency room or urgent care center. Emergency room actually might be better. I suspect that a pregnant lady with cramping will be seen pretty quickly.

Well discomfort is very possible your baby is growing. Your body is just trying to adjust to your baby's needs. How ever the discomfort I speak of is like constipation and sharp electrifying pains that feel like something is going to exit your vagina. Still, I'm not a DR, I just speak of experience of 3 boys, so call your DR that is what your insurance pays for. Use that to your advantage.

So long as you're not having more than 6 in an hour and they stop when you lay down and drink water its fine.

You'll have stabs and crontractions and pains, its part of being pregnant.

Having labor contractions is not normal, so if you're having more than six, they dont stop, or they get worse go to the ER.
