I nursed my son for 16 months. During the course of that time a small dark spot (not raised, just flat surface of skin) developed near the aerola of my breast. I thought it was due to his having bit me more than once during the course of weaning, or the fact that my skin around the nipple would often crack, and was always healing or bleeding.. Now a month after I've completely weaned my son off, my nipple is always peeling dry skin, and making way for fresh new skin underneath. However, it still has that dark spot that appears smaller, but itches like crazy! I've tried different ointments like Lansinoh, Vaseline, and Neosporin, but nothing stops the itch. I've done a breast examination twice and feel nothing different or wierd. So I don't think it's that. Is this normal? Does anyone know what's wrong with me? I plan to go to my GYN soon but I just started a new job and can't find the time to go as of yet..
Please help!

I would get it looked at as soon as possible.

I know a kid who's mother had a sore that wouldnt heal while she was nursing him. It was breast cancer and she later passed.

now, it is likely fungus or yeast but I would definitely get it checked out right away.

If its the itching that is bothering you, go and get a fungal cream, it might not be a fungus but I bet it will stop the itching. Trust me, it will work. and also try to make sure when you shower to totally make sure all the soap is washed off and then also uses the conditioner you use in your hair on your nipples and it will also give you relief. But for the spot I dont know what that could be, maybe show it to you doctor?

Stop putting all of those things on it; Vaseline is a petrolium product--bad for open wounds and Neosporin is an antibiotic.

Go to see the doctor, until then just use plain water, maybe not wear a bra so it gets some air.

Please go to the doctor.Explain to your new boss that you have a small concern about your health and you want to get it checked.I am sure that they will be understanding. Try and make the appointment as late in the day as possible so that you won't have to be out the whole day. This will show them that you are comitted to your work.It is probably hard to concentrate at work when your mind is on your healt.Get it check so you can have some peace of mind. GOOD LUCK!!

My daughter had one just like that while nursing. I insisted she go to a dermatologist. She did, he biopsied it and it was nothing. If you are really worried, go see a dermatologist. I get kinda obsessive about those things cause I had a malignant melanoma....skin cancer. Good Luck.
