This is a difficult question to answer, a lot of different factors go into what makes a snake the world's deadliest, amount of venom injected, type of venom (nuerotoxic or hemotoxic), were u were bit at, all of these things go into it. I have been working with snakes for a couple of years and in my professional opinion a couple of snakes come to mind Of course the Black Mamba, but also the Inland Taipan, and Sea Snakes. These are just the three that come to mind right off, but in other countries anti-venom is not always in supply, so Russell's vipers kill alot of people. See some snakes that are potent to humans are calm and not prone to strike unless seriously provoked ( This is by no means saying that without proper training u should ever approach any snake). There is a really good documentary by Dr. Brady Barr from the National Geographic Channel that breaks some of this down even farther.

The problem with answer 1 is that putting you hand down on a snake while climbing or looking for something is bothering it without "teasing" it.
Most of the data on toxins seems to be from Austrailia
http://www.barefootbushman.com/venoms.htm
and one site says most of the snakes in Queensland have toxic bites.
As you have probably found, Most Venomous gets a lot more attention than, maybe venomous.

There are some rear-fanged snakes that would have trouble envenomating anything as large as a human. However, I do not recommend any amateur keeping venomous snakes, no matter how unlikely it is that they will get envenomated.

According to this website... http://www.toxinology.com/fusebox.cfm?staticaction=snakes/ns-coluber1.htm , the African Tiger Snake makes you sick if it bites you. I'm sure there are plenty of other snakes like that....ones that just make people sick but don't kill them. Whip snakes, here in Australia, make people sick without killing them. That's just one, but I'm sure there would be lots of different types.

Of course there are so many slightly venomous snakes. When they bite there poison is not absorbed much and that doesn't give harmful effects. In my country kraits are slightly poisonous.
