when i open explorer, it closes down and says

how do i repair this so internet explorer will work

You also might want to have your hard drive checked. I had a client recently who was having similar issues, and it turned out that there was a bad sector or portion of his hard drive. Once that was marked, the issue no longer happened.

I would suggest that you try to do a System Restore and see if that fixes the problem.

Also, if that doesn't work, then I'd suggest that you possibly redownload Internet Explorer.

Yahoo! offers a version of Internet Explorer 7 with the Yahoo! Toolbar already installed.

I'm not sure if it's the beta version or not though, but here's the link.

Uninstall IE and download the new IE via Firefox. To be honest with you, I would stay with Firefox it is a better Internet browser ; ) Good luck!

I had da same problem myself. I had to download internet explorer again and reinstall it.

you could do a system restore or you could download internet explorer again and have it replace your current one
