I've been sexually active with my boyfriend for 5/6 months and it's like everytime i finish the antibiotics and wait a week (for the pill and we use condoms) i get another one! I've had blood tests for everything and there's nothing unhealthy with me, i not dry during sex (used to be but changed pills), cranbury juice doesn't seem to be helping, majority of times i go to toilet before and after sex.

My doctor gave me some non-spermicide condoms which were meant to help... they're not. I asked if not using condoms would help (we're clean) nurse says they have to advise me to use them as i medical person etc. Do you think not using them would work? I was gonna not use them next time (been waiting a couple of weeks after antibiotics) but it's just a circle and can feel another one coming on.

IF you are in a strictly monogamous relationship, you both have been blood tested and you have supreme trust in each other then try it without a condom. Did you get tested for a latex allergy? If you are still nervous try the female condom. Its a little weird but its not that bad.

I'm very sorry to hear that, I have also had similar problems so I understand how horrible it is for you.

You should check with the doctor that it isn't a sexual/vaginal problem.

Does it go away when you take the antibiotics? Make sure your health/diet is in top notch so you don't get rundown and prone to infection, take tablets to boost your immunie system and instead of drinking a carton of cranberry juice buy some of the neat stuff from health food shops that you put a few drops in water. Always drink a lot of water, and avoid spicy food. Always go to the bathroom after sex as well. When you have an attack of it, I find drinking alka seltzers work like magic as they have the same ingredients as cystitis relief tablets but much cheaper. Use unperfumed soap 'down there' and only wear cotton underwear/

If you keep getting this but don't actually get the bacterial infection then you could have something call IC. You can google it to see if this sounds familiar, it's when you get the symptoms but not the actual bacterial infection.

I hope you get better soon!

I would recommend asking for a consultation with a urologist (a doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders that relate to the bladder and other parts of the urinary tract) to see what they think could be going on. One possibility is that of a condition called Interstitial Cystitis that the urologist may check for to see if that's going on because frequent UTIs can be a symptom of this as well as having symptoms of UTI but one may not exist (this has happened to some of my friends who have Interstitial Cystitis).

As for not using the condoms, I would recommend checking with your doctor first to see what they say (after the holiday).

I have the same problem... have for ages... I get UTI's very often... (I was in the hospital for two weeks, and the docs were surprised when I came down with two UTI's...) Anyhow, a friend of mine suggested cutting down or eliminating caffeine from my diet... as caffeine is a diuretic... and also, you could be having rougher sex than you think... could just be that you're more prone to UTI than the average person... I am...

Your bf may passing this back to you, I suggest he goes in for an exam. Cannot understand why the doc didn't suggest that.

Make sure you are wiping front to back, not the opposite.

Antibiotics cause other problems and it can be a vicious cycle, go to a naturopath for some probiotics to help that situation and get some natural solutions.

Both of you should take a shower before intercourse, and you should take a shower afterwards, too. If your boyfriend is uncircumsized, he needs to clean underneath his foreskin better.
